Hired as EVP for Data Democratisation<strong>,<\/strong> he was asked to drive transformation at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virginmediao2.co.uk\/\">Virgin Media O2<\/a> not just build pipelines. However, in order to become a truly data-driven organisation it was clear that a centralised model alone could not scale to meet the needs of an enterprise with c. 16,000 people. The challenge was clear: provide access organisation-wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s where we <em>all<\/em> come into this game,\u201d says Mauro. The strategic pivot was to see data not as a walled garden but as the connective tissue of decision-making: \u201cHow can we accelerate the work that we\u2019re doing to not only make smarter, faster decisions but improve our customers\u2019 experience, using data?\u201d<em> asks Mauro.<\/em> The answer was to design for self-service, adoption and literacy<strong>,<\/strong> from the ground up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"O2 - Near or Far\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eEfkbVWjg-g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building A Resilient Culture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeveloping the right culture is everything. You can have the best technology in the world, but without this, transformation stalls,\u201d notes Mauro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year Mauro\u2019s team sets its V2MOM (Vision, Values, Methods, Obstacles and Measures) &#8211; a practice which Mauro brought across from Salesforce. \u201cThis sets out the key values we focus on as a team,\u201d he notes. \u201cIt\u2019s about asking and contracting with my team. Are we happy to have those values as an organisation?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this telco, data and culture are intertwined\u2026 Virgin Media O2\u2019s Data Culture team is building that resilient culture through initiatives that encourage colleagues to learn \u201cthe art of the possible\u201d and apply data to their everyday roles, through fun tasks and challenges, as well as webinars.
